SPRING: ALIGN YOURSELF WITH THE SEASON

Writer: anita andreolianita andreoli

Spring is finally here! The days are getting longer, the air feels fresher, and nature is waking up from its winter sleep.

But have you ever noticed how this season also stirs something inside of us? You might feel more energized and restless, or on the flip side, a bit sluggish, heavy, and even congested. Some people experience brain fog, allergies, or find it harder to get out of bed in the morning.

Ayurveda, the ancient science of life, explains that spring is ruled by Kapha dosha, which carries the qualities of heaviness, moisture, and coolness. Just like snow melting into thick, heavy mud, our bodies also go through a shift—we might feel stuck or weighed down both physically and mentally.

That’s why, in spring, it’s important to create balance by adding warmth, movement, and lightness into our daily routines.

If we don’t adjust, we might feel sluggish or out of sync. But with a few simple changes, we can actually tap into spring’s renewing energy and feel lighter, clearer, and more alive.

Here are some easy ways to support yourself this season:

1. Eat Lighter & Add Some Spice

During winter, we naturally crave heavier, grounding foods, but as spring arrives, it’s time to lighten things up. Think fresh, seasonal veggies, bitter greens, and warming spices like ginger, black pepper, and turmeric.

These help boost digestion, clear out excess mucus, and give you more energy.

An easy action you can take is starting your day with warm water and lemon to wake up your digestion and sip on ginger tea throughout the day.

2. Move Your Body Every Day

Spring is the perfect time to shake off winter sluggishness. Even just 20 minutes of movement can make a difference! A brisk walk in the fresh air, some energizing yoga, or a little dancing in your living room can help clear the heaviness of Kapha and leave you feeling refreshed.

Try hopping and shaking your body in the morning to warm up your body and get your energy flowing. Or stay tuned for the next newsletter, where I share a yoga practice to support the spring season.

3. Keep a Regular Daily Routine

One of the biggest game-changers for me was making sure I ate my meals and went to bed at the same time every day. I also started going to bed before 10 PM—before Pitta time kicks in—because that’s when melatonin levels are at their highest.

When I made these small shifts, my digestion improved, I slept more deeply, and I woke up with so much more energy.

Eat dinner by 7 PM and aim to be in bed by 10 PM to support your body’s natural rhythm. But more importantly, be consistent and keep the meal and sleep time always the same, when possible ;)

4. Detox Gently

Spring is the best time to support the body’s natural cleansing process. This doesn’t mean extreme fasting or juice cleanses, but rather simple habits that help your body clear out what it doesn’t need.

For example, drink warm water throughout the day, avoid heavy dairy and fried foods, and try dry brushing before your shower to stimulate circulation and lymphatic drainage.

5. Spend More Time Outside

As nature blooms, we can also reconnect with it. Fresh air, sunlight, and being around trees and plants all have powerful effects on our mood and energy levels. Science even backs this up—spending time in nature lowers stress hormones and boosts overall well-being.

Take a short walk in the morning sun or sit outside with your tea instead of scrolling on your phone.

Aligning with Nature’s Rhythms

Spring is a time of transition, and our bodies feel that shift.

By making small changes—eating lighter, moving more, keeping a regular routine, and spending time in nature—we align ourselves with the natural cycles and feel more energized, clear, and balanced.

And the best part? These habits aren’t complicated or overwhelming; they’re small, sustainable changes that make a big difference.
